More About The Opera..
This 50 minute, one act opera is written for 14 singers and scored for a chamber orchestra of 10 musicians (strings and woodwind).
The composer in writing this work has referred to both the story (‘The Three Strangers’) and the play version (‘The Three Wayfarers’) that Hardy himself made for the stage. The music is a blend of both operatic and traditional folk music. In this respect the composer readily acknowledges the influence of the music of Vaughan Williams in the score. Traditional folk tunes – some from Hardy’s own tune book – are worked into the score – and even the serpent, a musical instrument now rarely seen, makes an appearance…
We are hoping that this premier performance will lead to further performances at different venues tthroughout the year – including London, Oxford and Dorset.
