The Magic Flute with Live Art – new date added!
Ticket sales have exceeded demand for the 7th July performance of The Magic Flute with illustrator James Mayhew and his partner Antonio Reche-Martinez. We have now invited them to our 6th July 3pm performance at Waterperry Gardens in order to help us cope with the demand for this obviously popular concept!
Throughout the performance James and his partner Antonio, will be painting the action on stage during the performance.
James Mayhew is the author and illustrator of the long-running and best-selling Katie and Ella Bella Ballerina books. First published in 1989, Katie’s Picture Show established the long-running and best selling series of books that introduce children to the great works of art, while Ella Bella Ballerina is a bridge to the great ballets of Tchaikovsky and others. James is also the illustrator of Gaspard the Fox by Zeb Soanes. Apart from his work in publishing, James is an internationally renowned concert presenter, illustrating live on stage with orchestras and ensembles in venues including the Royal Albert Hall.
With his passion for music, vast knowledge of folklore, and 30 years of experience as a storyteller and children’s illustrator, James is perfectly placed to bring all these strands together. Accompanied by ensembles ranging from soloists and chamber groups to full symphony orchestras, the carefully choreographed concerts are highly educational, critically acclaimed and enormous fun.
Whether it’s turning Mussorgsky’s Exhibition back into pictures, bringing the Carnival of the Animals to life, telling the tales of Rimsky’s Scheherazade, or taking flight with Stravinsky’s Firebird, James has captured the imaginations of thousands of children – and indeed adults too.
