The Pirates of Penzance & HMS Pinafore, Hastings – Change of venue..
The ‘Pirate of Eastbourne’ has scuppered our plans for our four performances on Hastings Pier, scheduled for August 8th and 9th.
We have now moved our Gilbert and Sullivan favourites, The Pirates of Penzance & HMS Pinafore, to just down the road at St Mary in the Castle. The Pirates of Penzance performance will now take place at 6pm on Wednesday 8th and HMS Pinafore at 6pm on Thursday 9th August.
We are extremely disappointed to have to abandon Hastings Pier which has just recently been taken over by an Eastbourne pier owner who is not honouring the contract we had in place with the previous management team. We had a great experience and sell out audiences on the pier last year, and a great relationship with the pier charity team that welcomed us and supported us with open arms.
The main sticking point proved to be the retraction of the offer to use the indoor spaces on the lower deck for an alternate venue to the upper deck should there be bad weather. We also needed the indoor spaces for cast changing and props storage throughout the afternoons and evenings of the performances, without this facility we could not proceed.
We have decided to pursue compensation from the new owner for the cost of having to move our performances to St Mary in the Castle at short notice and for the loss of all the marketing materials we had created.
The positive aspect to this debacle is the very welcoming and warm invitation from the team at St Mary in the Castle arts centre that has enabled us to switch venues.
