Like most industries over the last couple of difficult years, the performing arts has taken a battering and so Opera Anywhere are even more delighted to be still performing, some 22 years since our first appearance at the Sunningwell Festival. We are greatly encouraged by the number of new venues, promoters and festivals that have been in contact with us to invite us to perform.
This year promises to be an exciting and busy year for our team, we have two new productions in development, a new partnership with our friends ‘Sorelle’, we have also taken on the management of the Sunningwell Festival, a multi-genre music and arts festival we have planned specifically with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in mind. We have also been converting our house and garden into a mini opera venue, we have named it ‘Quarry Opera’!
We would also like to announce our new productions; for some time we have been thinking about adding to our popular Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire and are delighted that we are currently in rehearsal for ‘Iolanthe’ and ‘Trial By Jury’. Our first performance of Iolanthe will be at one of our favourite venues; the Brighton Open Air Theatre, a marvellously organised amphitheatre at Brighton, the performance will be on Sunday 29th May at 2pm. The following performance will be on Thursday 2nd June at 3pm in our brand new opera venue in our own garden, at the Quarry in Sunningwell. We are envisaging a relaxed, mini version of Glyndebourne, this performance is one of many live events during the Sunningwell Festival and we are also delighted to welcome last year’s ‘The Voice’ finalist and number 1 classical crossover artist, Nadia Eide to our ‘Sunningwell Proms’ concert on the 4th June.
